PMI-NL Awards Selection Committee – Recruitment Information

The Project Management Institute Newfoundland & Labrador (PMI-NL) is seeking dedicated members to serve on the Awards Selection Committee for the upcoming PMI-NL 2026 Symposium. This committee plays a vital role in recognizing excellence in project management within our community by reviewing nominations and selecting award recipients.

Role Overview

Selection Committee members will review, score, and deliberate on nominations for PMI-NL awards, ensuring a fair and transparent process that reflects the highest professional standards.

Committee Composition

• 3-5 members in total. (Minimum 3)

• Members must be PMI and PMI-NL members in good standing

• Committee members will be selected based on their project management experience, professional judgment, and ability to participate throughout the review period.

• A PMI-NL Board-appointed Moderator will oversee the process, facilitate meetings, and manage conflicts of interest but will not participate in scoring nominations.

Eligibility to Serve

• Must be a current PMI & PMI-NL member in good standing.

• Cannot nominate themselves or be nominated for any award in the same year.

• No direct reporting relationship, business partnership, or close personal relationship with any nominee.

• Must declare and recuse themselves from any awards where a conflict of interest exists.

• Must disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest.

Key Responsibilities

• Review nomination packages based on the published judging criteria.

• Independently score nominations during the review period.

• Participate in committee deliberations to determine finalists and winners.

• Maintain strict confidentiality of all nomination materials and committee discussions.

• Recommend award recipients based on the established evaluation criteria.

Time Commitment

Committee members should expect to dedicate approximately 5–10 hours during the awards review period, including:

• Reviewing the Orientation & Rubric Review Session (live or recorded).

• Independent nomination review and scoring.

• Participation in at least one Awards Selection Meeting.

Awards Timeline

• Orientation & Rubric Review Session: Early August 2026 (recording available)

• Nomination Review Period: August 10–24, 2026.

• Awards Selection Meeting(s): August 25–29, 2026.

• Finalize Award: August 30, 2026

Code of Conduct

• Adhere to PMI’s Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.

• Treat all nominees with fairness, impartiality, and respect.

• Base all decisions solely on the published judging criteria.

How to Submit a Nomination

To submit a nomination, please download and complete the PMI-NL 2026 Awards Nomination Form.

A complete nomination package must include:

• Completed nomination form - Download Here
• 500–750 word nomination statement
• Two letters of support
• Supporting evidence, such as project summaries, testimonials, metrics, media coverage, or other relevant documentation

PMINL Trailblazer Award 

Award Description 

Honours exceptional women, LGBTQ+ individuals, and members of underserved communities who identify as women, whose leadership and vision have broken barriers in the field of project management. This award celebrates trailblazers who inspire change, champion inclusion, and pave the way for others through innovation, resilience, and impact. 

Eligibility 

• The nominator must be a current PMI and PMI-NL member in good standing.
• Nominees are not required to be PMI or PMI-NL members.  
• Nominees must be based in Newfoundland & Labrador or have led a project, initiative, or program with significant impact in the province.  
• Achievements being recognized must have occurred within the past two years.  
• Nominees must consent to nomination and public recognition.  
• Current Awards Selection Committee members are not eligible to be nominated during the same award cycle.

Judging Rubric 

Leadership & Influence – 30% 

    Evaluates the nominee’s ability to inspire others, foster collaboration, and drive change across teams or the profession. 

Breaking Barriers – 25% 

    Assesses how the nominee has challenged norms, overcome systemic obstacles, and created pathways for women, LGBTQ+ individuals, and underserved communities. 

Impact – 25% 

    Measures tangible results achieved, such as organizational growth, community benefits, or improved project delivery. 

Innovation & Vision – 10% 

    Considers creative approaches, forward-thinking strategies, and unique solutions applied to complex challenges. 

Advocacy & Inclusion – 10% 

Assesses the nominee’s active promotion of diversity, equity, and inclusion through mentorship, policy influence, or awareness campaigns.

Project Manager of the Year Award 

Award Description 

Honours an individual who has demonstrated exemplary leadership, strategic thinking, and commitment to project management excellence. The recipient consistently delivers successful outcomes and inspires their teams to achieve beyond expectations. 

Eligibility 

• The nominator must be a current PMI and PMI-NL member in good standing.
• Nominees are not required to be PMI or PMI-NL members. 
• Nominees must be based in Newfoundland & Labrador or have led a project, initiative, or program with significant impact in the province.  
• Achievements being recognized must have occurred within the past two years.  
• Nominees must consent to nomination and public recognition. 
• Current Awards Selection Committee members are not eligible to be nominated during the same award cycle.

    Measures the extent to which the nominee met or exceeded project goals, timelines, and budgets. 

Stakeholder Engagement – 20% 
    Assesses how effectively the nominee communicated and collaborated with stakeholders to ensure project success. 

Professionalism & Ethical Standards – 10% 
    Considers the nominee’s adherence to PMI’s Code of Ethics, integrity, and professional conduct.  

Innovation in Project Delivery – 10% 
    Evaluates the application of novel approaches or methodologies that improve project outcomes. 
 
Safety & Risk Excellence – 10%  
    Evaluates exceptional commitment to safety leadership and risk management in project environments

Emerging Project Leader Award 

Award Description 

Recognizes a rising professional in the project management field who has shown exceptional promise, leadership potential, and a commitment to advancing their skills. This award celebrates those making a significant impact early in their careers. 

Eligibility 

• The nominator must be a current PMI and PMI-NL member in good standing.
• Nominees are not required to be PMI or PMI-NL members. 
• Nominees must be based in Newfoundland & Labrador or have led a project, initiative, or program with significant impact in the province.  
• Must have less than five (5) years of project management experience
• Nominees must consent to nomination and public recognition. 
• Current Awards Selection Committee members are not eligible to be nominated during the same award cycle.

    Measures significant accomplishments made early in the nominee’s project management career. 

Learning & Professional Development – 20% 
    Evaluates the nominee’s commitment to continuous improvement and skill development. 

Initiative & Innovation – 15% 
    Considers proactive problem-solving and the application of creative ideas to deliver results. 

Positive Team & Community Impact – 10% 
    Assesses contributions that have positively affected team dynamics or community outcomes.

Community Impact Award 

Award Description 

Celebrates a project or initiative that has made a meaningful difference in the community through volunteerism, social impact, or sustainability efforts. The award highlights the role of project management in driving positive change. 

Eligibility 

• The nominator must be a current PMI and PMI-NL member in good standing.
• Nominees are not required to be PMI or PMI-NL members. 
• Nominees must be based in Newfoundland & Labrador or have led a project, initiative, or program with significant impact in the province.  
• Achievements being recognized must have occurred within the past two years.
• Nominees must consent to nomination and public recognition. 
• Current Awards Selection Committee members are not eligible to be nominated during the same award cycle.

    Measures the strength of partnerships and cooperation among stakeholders. 

Innovation & Problem-Solving – 10% 
    Considers creative approaches used to address community needs or constraints. 

Long-Term Positive Outcomes – 10% 
    Evaluates whether the project’s impact is sustainable and continues to benefit the community.

Volunteer of the Year Award 

Award Description 

Honours an outstanding volunteer whose dedication, energy, and contributions have strengthened PMINL and advanced its mission. The recipient exemplifies service, commitment, and a passion for the project management profession. 

Eligibility 

• The nominator must be a current PMI and PMI-NL member in good standing.
• Nominees are not required to be PMI or PMI-NL members. 
• Nominees must be based in Newfoundland & Labrador or have volunteered for a project, initiative, or program with significant impact in the province.  
• Nominees must have actively volunteered with PMI-NL within the past year.  
• Nominees must consent to nomination and public recognition. 
• Current Awards Selection Committee members are not eligible to be nominated during the same award cycle.

Dedication & Commitment – 25% 
    Evaluates consistency, reliability, and the willingness to go above and beyond expectations. 

Leadership in Volunteer Roles – 20% 
    Assesses the ability to lead and inspire other volunteers. 

Positive Influence on Members/Community – 10% 
    Considers the nominee’s role in enhancing the experience of PMINL members or the wider community. 

Initiative & Creativity – 10% 
    Evaluates the use of innovative approaches to improve volunteer work and outcomes.
