PMI Durham Highlands: Ask Me Anything: Looking Under the Hood of PMBoK Guide version 8

Ways of Working

PMI Durham Highlands organizes a session on January 31, 2026 | 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM EST / 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM NST on the new PMBOK v8. This session will provide an in-depth examination of the new structure, principles, and methodologies embedded in Version 8, highlighting their impact on both predictive and adaptive approaches. They will also briefly review the impact of this release on the PMP® exam for those preparing to write.

Leading this discussion is Sylvie Edwards, a long-standing member of PMI-DHC, who contributed as an editor to the development of Version 8. Her unique perspective from working directly with the PMI® team offers attendees valuable insights into the rationale behind these changes and their practical application in today’s project environments.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
    1. Identify the major updates and structural changes introduced in PMBOK® Guide Version 8.
    2. Explain the rationale behind the new principles and how they support modern project management practices.
    3. Evaluate the impact of Version 8 on project planning, execution, and governance.
    4. Discuss the implications of these changes for PMP® exam preparation and certification requirements.
